My favorite technique is fishing with lures. Using lures is such an exciting way of fishing. The gear is always improving, bringing lighter stronger new technology to NZ. Fishing with lures is constantly evolving, changing from season to season, always developing skills and improving techniques. Target species can be a wide range from Kingfish, Hapuka, Snapper, Southern Bluefin Tuna to freshwater species like Salmon and Trout.
As a true south islander I should be saying - Blue Cod. But unfortunately, I can’t name one favorite species as I really enjoy targeting so many different fish. Currently as I write this, I am most passionate about trying to catch my first Southern Bluefin Tuna, once I’ve caught a few I’m sure my focus will change.
Based in the South Island it’s a very hard choice between Durville Island or Fiordland. But Fiordland would have to be one of the most amazing places I’ve had the opportunity to fish. Absolutely stunning scenery, amazing wildlife and fantastic fishing, one of those places that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
I love fishing, always have since I can remember. Memories like going out with Grandad in Akaroa harbour setting and retrieving a flounder net, Walking Kms to the local wharf to fish all day and getting picked up in the afternoon. Since then, my passion for fishing has only grown and I’ve been lucky enough to turn this into a job I love. I love spending time on the water, recently being able to share my passion with my kids, seeing them catch a fantastic fish for the first time gives me more joy than actually catching it myself.
