Slow trolling live baits for Kingfish, or trolling lures for pelagic fish (Tuna & Marlin). The bite from an aggressive Marlin in a lure spread is hard to beat. Or feeling sore arms after a brutal fight with a big Kingfish is nothing short of addictive.
Kingfish, A great table fish for the family. They can be targeted with many different fishing techniques and are accessible from land or shore and have the best fight-to-weight ratio for any fish in the ocean. Nothing compares and ticks all the boxes for me. Every angler remembers their first decent kingfish.
I like to travel as much as I like to fish, So Hawaii (Kailua-Kona) is an exceptional location for me, and I see myself frequenting it in the future. The marlin fishery is world-class. Back home, I will travel with the seasons and the species. Spring / Autumn – Hauraki Gulf work ups and Kingfish. Summer - Marlin fishing in my home waters, Auckland’s West coast, or the Bay of Islands. Winter, I will head to Waihau for the Bluefin Tuna run. You will often catch me fishing out of Whitianga all seasons as well.
It’s me, and it’s who I am. I can’t put it down to any one thing. Comradery and memories made with friends and family. The adrenalin rush of a tricky or challenging fight with a big fish. The adventure of a new location or new species I haven’t caught. It all goes hand in hand and keeps the desire strong.
