Stalking the shallows on my kayak, casting softbaits at big snapper is one of my favourite techniques. I also love hunting Kingfish with live baits or jigs. The thrill of being towed around by angry Kingies is second to none.
My favourite species has to be the Kingfish. It’s aggression and awesome power make it a worthy adversary for any level of angler. They are a versatile species that can be caught on a variety of methods and put up one hell of a fight.
I do a lot of my fishing either in or just north of Auckland, but not many places can beat the far north of New Zealand. It is a special place with loads of big fish and stunning views. The rugged coastline is relatively undisturbed and offers endless opportunities for anglers.
My fishing journey started at the age of 3 with my father teaching me how to hold a rod, tie knots, bait hooks and cast. It has evolved from being a hobby, to a passion, to a career. I fish because I love the ocean and the creatures that live in it. I love the thrill of hunting, fooling and fighting the ocean’s top predators. I hope to pass this passion on to my own son when he is old enough to hold a rod.
