I have a couple. When targeting Kingfish off the boat, my go to would be jigging. On the other hand I do get a great deal of enjoyment out of some surfcasting with my son off the beach. Plenty of awesome memories have been made seeing the excitement of even the smallest of fish being brought ashore on the surf set.
Has to be a hard battling Kingfish, especially if lighter gear is in hand. Having a more technical fight with a well bend rod and screaming reel really interests me. Trying not to get too peeled out at the same time as wearing them out correctly makes for a more interesting experience.
My go to is the Coromandel over Summer, great beaches for casting off the shore and plenty of launching spots. I also do enjoy a solid day trip out of Auckland to the Barrier Islands in the Hauraki Gulf too.
It’s a great way to wind down and have an escape for me over the Summer breaks. It’s also been a great way to bond and bring the family together in the sun.
