The Ultegra Surf is Shimano’s leading ultra long range surf rod. With a convenient 3-piece design, combined with one of Shimano’s most advanced carbon technologies and premium fittings, this stunning range is available in hollow and solid tip options.
If you are looking for extreme casting performance, the Ultegra Surf is one model you really shouldn’t dismiss. Built using some of the most advanced carbon technology available, the extra fast action efficiently converts your casting power into tip speed, launching leads up to 225g (8oz) massive distances. Available in a tubular option for maximum casting distance, or a solid tip version for increased bite registration and sensitivity, whichever Ultegra Surf you choose you can be sure that you will be maximising your long range casting potential with whichever casting technique you prefer.
The ferocious casting power of the Ultegra Surf is generated by the use of Shimano’s exclusive Hi-Power X carbon technology. This reduces twist when the rod is put under the extreme pressure required for ultra long range casting. This directs the force more efficiently through the rod from the handle to the tip resulting is increased tip speed and faster lead velocity. Available in two lengths and two tip options, the 425 (4.25 metre) models are fitted with Fuji Lowrider Alconite guides and Fuji DPS reel seats. The longer 450 (4.50 metre) models are fitted with Fuji K-Type Alconite guides and Fuji DPS reel seats. The tip guide of all models is a Fuji Stainless Steel SiC guide. Both lengths come in a tubular and solid tip version with the solid tip being the more sensitive option for maximum bite detection. All rods have the Shimano Cast Control Grip to facilitate a strong hold with the bottom hand when casting.
David Wood Brignall - Having used the Ultegra Surg 425BXI for well over a year now I've found it to be a very adaptable and versatile rod. Handling various styles of fishing from delicate ragworm baits for the UK summer species like Soles and Plaice or casting big baits 120m+ for rays and smooth hounds, this rod has has been the perfect fishing tool with the pick of the bunch being a 30lb+ Halibut whilst on a trip to Northern Norway. The carbon tip sits nicely in the tide and when paired with Aero Technium reels is an extremely well balanced combination.
