Shimano Expands Premier Lever Drag Reel Lineup with Talica 40II A and Talica 50II A

New sizes for Summer 2025 bring added versatility for saltwater fisheries across the U.S.

Shimano North America Fishing continues to expand on its legacy of saltwater angling innovation with the introduction of the Talica 40II A and Talica 50II A, the latest sizes in its flagship lever-drag conventional reel series. The all-new Talica 40II A is set to debut at the 2025 ICAST New Product Showcase, a new model that addresses market demand for a reel that bridges the gap between the 25 and 50 sizes, providing a versatile option for offshore anglers targeting strong species in tough conditions.

“Talica has long stood at the top of the pyramid when it comes to performance-driven lever drag reels,” says Blaine Anderson, Saltwater Product Marketing Manager at Shimano North America Fishing. “With the new 40 and 50 sizes, we’re delivering the ideal balance of power and compactness, paired with Shimano’s best-in-class drivetrain technologies for anglers who refuse to compromise.”

At the heart of the Talica A is Infinity Drive, Shimano’s premier technology for lever-drag reels. Infinity Drive features a new drag design that increases drag force while reducing side-load pressure, allowing for significantly lighter handle rotation under load. This results in more cranking power with less effort.  Additionally, X-Protect, Shimano’s advanced water-resistance technology, delivers high-level protection to the drive gear shaft bearing using waterproof construction to dramatically improve durability and corrosion resistance in harsh offshore conditions.

The 40-size model introduces unmatched versatility across regional fisheries and bridges the gap between the 25 and 50 sizes.  While the heavier Talica 50II A (55.7oz) will hold more line than the Talica 40II A (54.7oz), the 40-size boasts the same retrieval rate of 46 Inches Per Crank (High) and Max Drag of 66 lbs. as its 50-size sibling.  Compact enough for stand-up harness fishing, yet powerful enough to handle the demands of trolling under high drag pressure, the Talica 40II A and 50II A reinforce Shimano’s leadership in the lever drag category.
