KEY FEATURE

A flagship model that is generously equipped with Shimano's advanced technology.

The Sephia Limited Tip Egging, Shimano's flagship tip-point egging rod series, has evolved even further. The blank's basic structure utilizes a uniquely designed and manufactured Spiral X Core. By thoroughly eliminating twisting and crushing, it supports anglers at a high level, from delicate yet bold control of the egg jig to the fierce fight with a monster-sized oval squid. Its slender silhouette provides a sharp feel while also handling powerful battles with large fish, making it truly worthy of Shimano's flagship model. All guides are also equipped with next-generation, high-performance X guides. This significantly reduces trouble during use and contributes to the rod's overall weight reduction. Other cutting-edge technologies are generously incorporated, including a new carbon shell grip design that fits comfortably in the hand and reduces fatigue even during extended use, and a carbon monocoque grip with a hollow structure for high sensitivity. The tip is also equipped with Tough Tech ∞, highly acclaimed by experts. This provides a significant advantage in this type of fishing, where tip visibility and flexibility are crucial.

The Spiral X core achieves even greater strength through the synergistic effect of the latest material M46X and Spiral X.

Shimano's unique Spiral X Core design and manufacturing process delivers increased strength in all directions, including bending, twisting, and crushing. This latest blank structure is used in flagship rod models. The blanks are made of Torayca® M46X prepreg carbon fiber, incorporating high-strength resins developed through Nanoalloy® technology. The inner and outer layers of the rod's vertical fibers are densely wrapped with carbon tape in opposite diagonal directions, achieving superior torsional and crushing rigidity. This results in a 10% increase in torsional strength and a 15% increase in crushing strength. Compared to standard blank structures, this blank achieves 1.4 times the torsional strength and 2.5 times the crushing strength (compared to our previous model). Despite being slimmer and lighter than previous models, it still boasts the power to rival large oval squid, enabling sharp, precise lures. And the improved maneuverability makes tip-based squid fishing even more exciting.

Carbon shell grip is used to achieve the ultimate grip.

In tip-based egging, where you constantly lure squid and wait for a reaction, rod sensitivity is one of the most important factors in achieving reliable catches. The Sephia Limited Tip Egging rod thoroughly pursues this aspect of sensitivity. The result was the adoption of a carbon shell grip. This was a highly acclaimed previous model, but by revising the design in 0.1mm increments, the grip feels even better when you grip it. This allows you to concentrate on the game for long periods without fatigue. Even if a large squid suddenly strikes, you can instantly transition to battle mode. Furthermore, the hollow structure transmits vibrations efficiently, accurately transmitting information from underwater to your hand. Instructor Tomitokoro described the carbon shell grip as, "Not only is it highly sensitive, but it's surprisingly easy to grip and fits perfectly in your hand, providing the ultimate grip." Experience it for yourself.

The sensitivity of the entire rod is improved. The power of the carbon monocoque grip.

There are many situations in which the rear grip is manipulated during tip-end egging, such as when casting, controlling the lure, and working the rod while holding it under the arm. The Sephia Limited Tip Egging uses a high-resolution carbon monocoque grip. The one-piece molded polyhedron structure of hollow, thin carbon not only contributes to weight reduction, but also achieves an overwhelming improvement in sensitivity to reverberation. Regarding this performance, Tomitokoro expressed his surprise, saying, "It's completely different. It feels like the sensitivity of the entire rod, from the blank to the grip, has increased." Furthermore, the design features a larger waist than previous models, allowing for a firmer hold during casting and rod manipulation, and the benefits can be felt in all situations, such as increased casting distance and improved lure operability.

Furthermore, as Tomitokoro puts it, "The sensitivity has been dramatically improved to the point where you can even tell which way the squid is facing underwater," and the new generation carbon shell grip, which combines high operability, will take Sephia Limited Tip Egging to a new dimension.

Finally, a full X guide has been achieved. Experience a lighter and sharper operating feel.

Shimano's proprietary X Guide features a guide frame shaped to minimize air resistance. Its benefits can be enjoyed not only when casting, but also in a variety of situations, such as when manipulating squid jigs with quick rod work. The ring itself has also been made thinner, resulting in a larger diameter. This allows for smooth line release, even when casting. The smooth convergence of the line when released significantly reduces tangles, allowing you to focus on the game stress-free all day long. Because the entire rod is made up of X Guides from the tip to the butt, the interaction with the blank's characteristics results in a lightweight and sharp feel.

The vivid orange color allows you to accurately detect even the slightest movement of the tip.

It is no exaggeration to say that one of the factors that greatly influences the fishing results in tip-based egging is the ease of grasping the movement of the rod tip. For the new Sephia Limited Tip Egging, we tested various color patterns to improve visibility. After repeated testing, we arrived at one answer: a pattern with a vivid orange color scheme. We confirmed that by being able to more accurately determine the instantaneous return and penetration of the tip, we were able to increase the hook-up rate. We searched for the optimal pattern depending on the bending of the tip, and applied the best color scheme to each model, supporting the high-level game play of experts who are able to reliably hook the reaction of bigfin reef squid.

【S610L-S】

With a long length of 6 feet 10 inches and a combination of flexible light power, this model is suitable for situations with high waves in rough weather. Even when the boat is moving up and down a lot, the flexible blank characteristics allow the rod to absorb unnecessary inputs and stabilize the behavior of the squid, allowing you to present the squid more naturally to large, wary bigfin reef squid. In addition, even when using rod work that makes use of the length, it maintains a stable, stay-still position. This model can more reliably detect the subtle reactions from the bigfin reef squid that appear on the tip, allowing you to bring it all the way to a hook.

【S68ML-S】

This all-rounder is well-balanced and can handle any situation. From delicate manipulation to powerful fighting, this one rod can handle everything. It also features the classic Shimano tone (regular taper), making it a highly capable model, offering stability in slightly choppy conditions as well as technical developments in calm waters. The Tough Tech ∞ allows you to firmly probe for reaction with the tip, while the ML power of the butt section allows you to firmly set the hook. It's a unique rod that allows you to fight large bigfin reef squid with confidence.

【S63ML+-S】

With its easy-to-handle length and ML+ power, this is a standard model that can be used in a wide range of situations. It also has the aspect of being a tip-action all-rounder that can be used throughout the season. The tip-action setting allows for delicate control of the squid jig, while the ML+ butt power allows for aggressive fishing. This is a rod you can rely on when searching for highly active targets in calm conditions with quick handling. It is also suitable for vertical fishing, which has become popular recently.

【S511M-S】

This model excels at controlling the squid jig at will and targeting highly active targets. With a short length of 5 feet 11 inches and a tip-action setting, you can directly manipulate the jig in the water to lure bigfin reef squid and bring them all the way to the hook. It excels in calm conditions and is a recommended choice for anglers who want to enjoy fishing that requires active lure action, and is also suitable for vertical tip-heavy squid fishing.

IMPRESSION

The evolution of the blanks is astounding. Experience the high performance befitting a top-of-the-line model.

Jun Tomidokoro

The previous Sephia Limited Tip Egging lineup consisted of three models, but this latest release expands to four, offering a wider variety of fishing options. In particular, the short model S511M-S and the previously unreleased S63ML+-S lengths are ambitious models that cater to the growing demand for vertical tip egging. Another common thread running through all models is the evolution of the blanks. The use of high-modulus carbon M46X, optimally designed with Shimano's technological expertise, gives the impression of further enhancing the rod's potential. This was most evident in the S610L-S. I've always preferred long models, but this one truly captures the suppleness of the L Power line. It's slender, lightweight, and bends effortlessly. It's one of my favorites. While the new M46X high-modulus carbon is used, the more flexible blanks demonstrate Shimano's technological advancements. I've used many different rods, but making an L-power rod soft and flexible is actually the most difficult task. It's amazing how well the Sephia Limited Tip Egging rod has managed to achieve this. With such softness, you might be concerned about a large squid hitting the line, but thanks to Shimano's proprietary Spiral X Core and High Power X technologies, the rod doesn't stay bent after bending. Instead, it develops enough power to reel in the squid. This is an evolutionary point common to all models, not just the S610L-S. For example, the S68ML-S is a standard model for tip egging, offering an excellent balance of power and flexibility. Furthermore, short-length models offer the best performance for aggressive hooking and quick handling. In fact, when there are a lot of squid in the area, I choose the S511M-S. No matter which model you choose, you'll be able to experience the high performance that is worthy of the name Sephia Limited, Shimano's top brand. We hope you'll choose the model that suits your style and enjoy a higher level of tip-end egging.
