The Caius reels are offered with Shimano’s new Easy Mag II Braking System – a magnetic cast control that allows for a true freespool setting. “With Easy Mag, the spool controlling magnets rotate to face each other, cancelling themselves so they apply zero force on the spool,” said Kenichi Iida, Shimano’s reel product specialist. “As the angler masters his or her casting skills with the Caius – educating your thumb as its called – you can continue to turn down the magnetic control to provide better freespool and more casting distance.”

Available in an ‘all-around’ 6.5:1 gear ratio, Iida adds that the Caius has a good speed to work just about any baits, be it jigs and worms in heavy cover, or working lots of water with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Both reels will retrieve 27-inches of line per crank, and will handle 155 yards of 10-pound test mono, or 120 yards of 50# PowerPro.

The Caius reels have three Shimano SUS ball bearings to add to smooth performance, and a roller clutch to eliminate any handle backplay. Also featured are a drilled-out handled to reduce weight – the reels weigh 7.2-ounces, a graphite frame and aluminum spool.

“It’s Shimano quality, Shimano design, Shimano manufactured,” Iida states. “We want anglers who are looking to enhance their fishing skills by using baitcasting reels to not have any problems with their tackle. A good experience on the water keeps them on the water – and we want them to have that good experience using Shimano tackle.
