New "OVER 8" Expride Models

The 2017 Expride series was meticulously tested by touring pros and tackle junkies across the United States for two full seasons. The series features a variety of versatile actions, with a handful of technique specific rods to meet the demands of some of the most specialized fishing styles. Now, we've added four over 8-foot models. These models are a direct response to the change in Bassmaster rules, which will now allow B.A.S.S. competitors to use rods over 8 feet long and up to 10 feet long.

Why did Bassmaster decide to change the rules? According to B.A.S.S. Tournament Director Trip Weldon, "This is something that the anglers wanted. After discussing it during our annual rules committee meeting, we saw no reason not to expand to 10 feet.” The new rule will apply to all B.A.S.S. trails, including the Bassmaster Elite Series, the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens and all B.A.S.S. Nation and youth events.

Longer rods are popular with Elite pros for certain techniques, especially throwing big swimbaits. B.A.S.S. also notes that Elites "like longer rods for smallmouth bass techniques, including the float-and-fly method, which is impractical with a rod shorter than 9 or 10 feet." OVER 8 Expride Models

Shimano is proud to present four new models, all over eight feet long. We call them the "OVER 8" models. All OVER 8 models feature a special two-piece design that is up to 25% lighter than telescoping designs. They feature the same Shimano-only Hi-Power X construction, semi-micro guides customized to each model/action in a compact, light weight design.

The extra length of the handle is perfect for lobbing big glide baits. Lightweight, but not light on power, this rod has the right tip to let fish eat the bait and then more than enough power in the mid and butt sections to drive hooks home and winch double-digits to the boat.

The additional length of this long cranker allows you to achieve incredible casting distance and drive your bait deeper, faster. Whether you're fishing Tennessee River ledges or long points in East Texas, this is the ultimate big-lipped bait option.

911XHA

This rod is the baddest of all heavy punching rods. The additional length and power gives anglers incredible leverage to pull fish from the thickest mats and tullies. No more going in to dig out your fish and blowing up your spot. Plus, this rod is a great option for slinging 8-10 inch soft swimbaits.

Ned rig, shakeyhead, dropshot, senko, neko rig.  Designed to be a versatile, long caster, it deserves a spot on your deck no matter what your finesse weapon of choice.Incredible sensitivity and additional length make this rod shine in deep water. The extra length aids in driving small hooks home on a long cast or out deep. As B.A.S.S. Elite Pro Jared Lintner put it, “I need 5 of these…tomorrow.”
