2017 Chronarch MGL

Packed with our most advanced technology, the Chronarch MGL is where anglers turn for consistent, top-level performance. The Chronarch MGL is a 150 size, making it a great all-around reel with enough line capacity for long casting but is compact and ergonomic enough to be comfortable during the short-game of flipping and pitching.

Shimano Chronarch MGL Key Features

MicroModule Gear –MicroModule gearing is our new gear set with more and smaller teeth – it is one of the latest technologies to give anglers the smoothest experience on the water. The precise engagement between the teeth means a smoother power transmission without reducing the strength of the reel.

X-SHIP – Keeping the MicroModule gears perfectly aligned is the job of X-Ship. X-Ship means that both ends of the pinion gear are supported with bearings, keeping the pinion gear precisely aligned with the drive gear. The result? The Chronarch MGL maintains its powerful retrieve even under heavy loads.

SVS Infinity Brakes -  SVS Infinity is a centrifugal braking system, with brake weights that use inner friction against the raceway during the cast to control spool speed. Put simply, the SVS Infinity system provides easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force. Pro Tip: With two of the four brake shoes turned on, only the external dial needs to be adjusted for most situations.

Magnumlite (MGL) Spool – The new, ultralight Magnumlite spool requires very little force to get it spinning, so anglers can cast even light lures farther with less effort. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same spool as the Metanium MGL.

By combining these features in the Chronarch MGL, we’ve created an ultra-smooth, lightweight, quiet, and durable reel.

What’s different between the Chronarch Ci4+ and Chronarch MGL?

The main difference between the Chronarch MGL and older Chronarch Ci4+ is the MicroModule gearing, making the MGL smoother than the older model. The MGL spool is also new on the Chronarch MGL, helping anglers cast farther with this new model.

Anglers have more gear ratio options with the new model, changing from 6.2:1 and 7.6:1 in the Ci4 to 6.2:1, 7.1:1, and 8.1:1 in the MGL model. Plus, there is one additional bearing in the MGL model.

Chronarch MGL Price and Specs

The Chronarch MGL is available in three gear ratios, 6.2:1, 7.1:1, and 8.1:1, in right or left handed models. MSRP for the new Chronarch is $279.99. Find a Shimano dealer in your area to shop for the Chronarch MGL.

Chronarch MGL Reviews

Tactical Bassin - "This reel is a HUGE upgrade from its predecessor and one that you absolutely need to check out! With a price point of $279 and a look and feel that rivals the Metanium MGL you need to give this reel a try." Watch the video

Tackle Tour - "How do you make an already very good reel better? Well, if you're Shimano, you build it with micro-module gearing - smaller teeth, more consistent contact between gears, equals even smoother, silkier performance. Combine this with the use of brass and not aluminum for the reel's guts and you have a combination that can endure some serious abuse." Read the full review
